The Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon National Park
I barely managed to get out of the car for this shot at sunrise, I had only slept for an hour and a half at this point for my 5th sunrise.

Well after spending a beautiful morning at Yosemite, I decided it was time to get out of there as the crowds were arriving.  I headed out on my way to the Grand Canyon.  Another enormous national park that I had never been to even though I had passed by it many times.

The drive this night was probably the hardest of all my nights.  I was worried sick about the car, and I had to stop every so often to argue with another insurance guy about the debris accident.  I had originally planned to try to day hike Havasu Falls, but when I called the guy was pretty adamant about needing a reservation, of course, he also never actually said no.  And after hiking 8 miles into the town to pay for the permit, would they really turn you away?

Anyway, I decided against it though as the night just got later and later.  In the end, I didn't pull into the park until about 3 am.  It was a rough drive, and sunrise was literally in an hour and a half, so I didn't have much time to park and sleep before I needed to be out again.  This was probably the hardest sunrise to get out for, but I managed to roll out and take some pictures before I finally gave up and went back to sleep.

Here you can see it without the hdr and see the thick haze that arrives in the morning.

Here you can see how the use of a polarizer really helps cut through the haze.

The Grand Canyon is enormous and I know there are so many things to do in the canyon, but to be honest, this was not my favorite part of the trip, and the canyon doesn't rank in my top parks to go to, but there are so many things in the surrounding area that are worthwhile that I don't see why you wouldn't stopover somewhere in this great park.  To see more things to do in the Grand Canyon click here.  Otherwise continue on to the last day of my story here.
